Smoking How To Quit – The dangers of using Zyban

Smoking How To Quit - Zyban

Zyban

Zyban – Discover how using this harmful drug to quit smoking, can be potentially life threatening!

Before I discovered how to quit smoking, I was considering a medicated approach to quitting smoking. I came across Zyban (or bupropion SR) – yet another drug riddled with side-effects. The known side-effects of the use of Zyban are not only potentially dangerous, but could end up killing you.

I am amazed at the amount of medications being sold such as Zyban, Nicorette and Champix which are used to try to quit smoking. They have so many reported side-effects – some of which can be life-threatening, and yet somehow drugs like Zyban are approved by the F.D.A.

Zyban for example, (like most medications pre-approved by the F.D.A.) have been split-tested for a designated period of time between a control group and a medicated group, and then their side-effects are monitored and documented. After doing some research, I came across a list of these potential side-effects of using Zyban to quit smoking. Some of the most common Zyban side-effects are listed below:

  • An irritated or runny nose (up to 12%)
  • Dry mouth (up to 11%)
  • Dizziness (up to 10%)
  • Nausea (up to 9%)
  • Trouble concentrating (up to 9%)
  • Constipation (up to 8%)
  • Joint pain (up to 5%)
  • Muscle pain (up to 4%)
  • Diarrhoea (up to 4%)
  • Nervousness (up to 4%)
  • Insomnia (up to 40% of patients) (!)

Some people, who have a busy life-style have difficulty sleeping. If you are trying to quit smoking and are a restless sleeper, I suggest alternatives to Zyban to stop smoking cigarettes.

People have also reported allergic reactions to Zyban included the following:

  • Unexplained rash
  • Hives
  • Itching
  • Unexplained swelling
  • Wheezing
  • Difficulty breathing or swallowing.

But alarmingly, there are more potentially dangerous side-effects associated with Zyban that have been disclosed. I nearly tried using Zyban (based on a local shop assistant’s suggestion) a little over a year ago. I’m sure you can imagine my horror when I read the following list of more severe side-effects, and my thankfulness that I did not use Zyban to kick the habit.

  • Seizures
  • Suicidal thoughts or behavior
  • Anxiety, agitation, or panic attacks
  • Hostility or aggressiveness
  • Engaging in unusual or dangerous activities
  • A rapid heart rate
  • Chest palpitations
  • Restlessness
  • Hallucinations

I feel dreadful for the people that take these types of drugs without knowing this information. Like cigarette packages, I think these drugs should have manditory health warnings printed in bold – just to be fair.

But to my amazement Zyban is gived to patients not only to try and quit smoking, but also in the treatment of depression. It is beyond me how Zyban makes for a viable means to treat depression, when a statistically large number of people have experienced:

  • Extreme elation or feelings of happiness that may switch back and forth with a depressed or sad mood.
  • Suicidal thoughts or behavior
  • Anxiety, agitation, or panic attacks

I’m no doctor, but surely treatment of depression with drugs that can promote very negative emotions is counter-productive. There must be better ways to treat depression, and there certainly are better ways to quit smoking without drugs like Zyban.

For more information on the warnings of quitting cigarette smoking using Zyban and Champix and their potentially harmful side-effects please watch the following video:

Zyban was actually removed from the market entirely in the 1980s due to the high number of seizures reported with people taking the medication. It was then later re-introduced to the public at a later date, after finding that Zyban a.k.a. Bupropion – related seizures usually only happened as a result of higher dosages. This is still alarming.

I don’t know about you, but after researching Zyban and finding the harmfully side-effects of Zyban, it doesn’t sound like a sensible way of trying to quit smoking. The reason why you want to quit smoking is to preserve your life and health, right? Zyban sounds like it could potentially do the opposite!

Please advise anyone you know who is considering using Zyban or any similar medications, to read this information. It may just save them from a terrible experience and even save their life.

In my next coming article, I will explain how I quit smoking without drugs and have never looked back. Don’t forget to bookmark smokinghowtoquit.net, so you can find my site again.

Take care.

Smoking How To Quit – The dangers of Champix / Chantix

How To Quit Smoking - Champix

Champix (Chantix)

Champix – The dangers of potentially “psychotic” side-effects!

After researching other ways to quit smoking, I came across Champix which seems to be quite a common “solution”.

Unfortunately, the statistics and stories about Champix that I’ve come across are equally, if not more alarming than Nicorette or other Nicotine Replacement Therapies. (To read my article on the dangers of using Nicorette to help quit smoking scroll down the page). Champix seems to be a  horrendous side-effect ridden therapy medication used to attempt to quit smoking. (Or as its dubbed in America – Chantix).

Champix is a daily medication which comes in a 0.5 to 1 mg tablets that some claim has been beneficial in quitting smoking. But only if you like to punish yourself for smoking all those years with a sense of nausea that seemingly lasts 24 hours a day… Perhaps you would think that this cannot be healthy to begin with. But that aside, let’s look at some of the unwanted side-effects that a vast number of people have experienced using this medication when quitting smoking:

  • abdominal pain
  • appetite changes
  • constipation
  • dizziness
  • drowsiness
  • flatulence
  • gingivitis
  • headache
  • heartburn
  • nausea
  • rash
  • sleep disturbance
  • tiredness or weakness
  • vomiting
  • severe allergic reactions that swells the face or even throat (!)
  • the list of side effects of Champix goes on…and on.

But that wasn’t the most alarming thing about using Champix to quit smoking. Apparently, as a “general guide” to administering the medication, you are supposed to “check with your doctor if any of the following symptoms occur”. Such as:

“Changes in behaviour, changes in mood, depression…”
[But most alarmingly]: “…thinking about harming self or others.”

I know trying to quit smoking can make you on edge, but apparently using Champix to quit smoking could potentially make you psychotic!
Furthermore to this, doctors also advise:

People with any type of mental health condition including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depressive disorder should discuss with their doctor how this medication may affect their medical condition, how their medical condition may affect the dosing and effectiveness of this medication, and whether any special monitoring is needed.

Well, after analysing all this information, I’d recommend that schizophrenics, people with bipolar disorder, or anybody who is not a mentally stable person, (or, even if you’re just in a bad mood..) I would urge you seek better options than Champix to quit smoking. It makes me seriously wonder how this product was ever approved by the F.D.A. I don’t know about you, but Champix is not recommended by me to anyone.

Just see what was on the news not so long ago about using Champix to quit smoking:

How to quit smoking – The problems with Nicorette, and other nicotine gums

How to quit smoking  – The problem with using Nicorette, and other nicotine gums to quit smoking:

After considering trying Nicorette and nicotine gum to help quit smoking, I thought it would be wise to find out more.  (I’m that kind of lady.) Here is what I have discovered.

Amongst others, the potential side effects of chewing nicorette and other nicotine gum to quit smoking are:

  • Hair Loss
  • High blood pressure
  • Tooth damage
  • Vasoconstrictor
  • Rashes
  • Acne
  • Skin reddening
  • Headaches
  • Sleep disturbance
  • Potential Diabetes
  • Diseased gums
  • Swollen glands
  • Loss of sex drive
  • Constipation.

Nicorette and other nicotine gums do not remove your addiction to nicotine and help you quit smoking – They merely replace the nicotine source.

How to Quit Smoking - Nicorette

Nicorette Gum

I don’t know about you, but the side effects of Nicorette and nicotine gum to try and quit smoking sound almost worse than smoking itself.

Also, the fact that the company Johnson & Johnson promote Nicorette under the following guidance – well, I found it a little disturbing:

“There is little risk of transferring nicotine dependence from tobacco onto the NRT (Nicotine Replacement Therapy) product. That’s because blood concentrations of nicotine peak more slowly and reach much lower levels than those achieved from cigarettes”, Nicorette’s website proclaimed.

Nicotine is one of the most addictive substances known; even more so than morphine and heroin. Users of morphine become addicted to even low regular doses. Surely a rational person would recognize that the same condition would probably apply to nicotine addiction. Before I tried to quit smoking, I smoked strong 16mg cigarettes. If I smoked a milder cigarette, after finishing it I immediately wanted another one. This is probably because there was less nicotine in it. I even tried smoking milder cigarettes for a while, and found myself always smoking more in a day. My body wanted a certain amount of nicotine in a day. According to this quote, it makes me wonder how Nicorette gum is going to help anyone quit smoking.

Here are what some people have said about using Nicorette gum to quit smoking:

“The most distressing side effect is addiction,” writes a 52 year-old ten-year Nicorette female user. “The expense is ridiculous and a total scam. What makes me think that some of the drug company’s profit is going back to the tobacco companies?”

“I now know getting off of Nicorette will be as hard as quitting smoking for me.”

Considering that some users of Nicorette (and similar products) have become heavily addicted to nicorette gum, (some for as long as 16 years!) makes me wonder how on earth this could be a viable way to quit smoking permanently…
