How to quit smoking – The problems with Nicorette, and other nicotine gums

How to quit smoking  – The problem with using Nicorette, and other nicotine gums to quit smoking:

After considering trying Nicorette and nicotine gum to help quit smoking, I thought it would be wise to find out more.  (I’m that kind of lady.) Here is what I have discovered.

Amongst others, the potential side effects of chewing nicorette and other nicotine gum to quit smoking are:

  • Hair Loss
  • High blood pressure
  • Tooth damage
  • Vasoconstrictor
  • Rashes
  • Acne
  • Skin reddening
  • Headaches
  • Sleep disturbance
  • Potential Diabetes
  • Diseased gums
  • Swollen glands
  • Loss of sex drive
  • Constipation.

Nicorette and other nicotine gums do not remove your addiction to nicotine and help you quit smoking – They merely replace the nicotine source.

Nicorette Gum

I don’t know about you, but the side effects of Nicorette and nicotine gum to try and quit smoking sound almost worse than smoking itself.

Also, the fact that the company Johnson & Johnson promote Nicorette under the following guidance – well, I found it a little disturbing:

“There is little risk of transferring nicotine dependence from tobacco onto the NRT (Nicotine Replacement Therapy) product. That’s because blood concentrations of nicotine peak more slowly and reach much lower levels than those achieved from cigarettes”, Nicorette’s website proclaimed.

Nicotine is one of the most addictive substances known; even more so than morphine and heroin. Users of morphine become addicted to even low regular doses. Surely a rational person would recognize that the same condition would probably apply to nicotine addiction. Before I tried to quit smoking, I smoked strong 16mg cigarettes. If I smoked a milder cigarette, after finishing it I immediately wanted another one. This is probably because there was less nicotine in it. I even tried smoking milder cigarettes for a while, and found myself always smoking more in a day. My body wanted a certain amount of nicotine in a day. According to this quote, it makes me wonder how Nicorette gum is going to help anyone quit smoking.

Here are what some people have said about using Nicorette gum to quit smoking:

“The most distressing side effect is addiction,” writes a 52 year-old ten-year Nicorette female user. “The expense is ridiculous and a total scam. What makes me think that some of the drug company’s profit is going back to the tobacco companies?”

“I now know getting off of Nicorette will be as hard as quitting smoking for me.”

Considering that some users of Nicorette (and similar products) have become heavily addicted to nicorette gum, (some for as long as 16 years!) makes me wonder how on earth this could be a viable way to quit smoking permanently…
